Chair Yoga - Kylie Riggs

Wear your comfy clothes to club this month as Kylie Riggs,
transplanted Australian, teacher of yoga and Pilates,
and boxing at the Cross Timbers YMCA, is our featured speaker.
She will show us how to move and stretch, and maybe put us on the path
to inner peace, - all without leaving the comfort of our chairs.
For those who already practice yoga, you may find a few new moves here.
For those who have been meaning to get up and move, this may just
be the type of exercise you've been looking for.

Tablescapes - Marcia Blair and Barbara Gardner

Two former Newcomer’s presidents, best friends, and creative ladies Marcia Blair
and Barbara Gardner are our featured speakers. Just in time for Holiday decorating
these ladies will share ideas that will make your home sparkle this season.
Some of their many ideas will incorporate items already in your
home just looking for a new way to shine.

Shelly Tucker - Humor, History, Stories

January 17, Storyteller. Shelly Tucker paints pictures with words
- she tells stories for a living. In 2008, the National Endowment for
the Arts named her an American Masterpiece Storyteller. For years Shelly
has traveled around Texas sharing her stories. Today you will most likely
find this Denton resident leading The Ghosts of Denton tours weaving a narrative
spell that resurrects the past, unburies secrets, and dusts off the mysteries of the past.
She has shared many of these tales in her book, Ghosts of Denton: The Mysteries
in a Small Texas Town, which will be available for purchase at the meeting.
She saved the rest of the stories to tell out loud.

Quilts - Pam Luke

Pam Luke is an award winning quilter and instructor,
a lecturer, and a novice potter. Besides quilting, she loves to travel and
collect buttons. Currently she is a student at the University of Texas at Tyler
working towards a master’s degree. In her day job, she is the purchasing manager
for Howell Instruments, Inc., in Ft. Worth. Pam has two children, who now have
places of their own, and lives with her husband in Weatherford. She has created
this program on quilts especially for this Newcomer’s presentation which will include
history, anecdotes,and some beautiful examples of quilts.

** Pam will not be able to join us, and her program will be presented by
Debbie Allnutt. Pam's knowledge and enthusiasm for quilts is evident in
her program and you will find it informative and entertaining.**

March 21, Fashion show. Get an early preview of the fashions
that will be in vogue this spring season as Chico's gives us an
sneak peek at their new spring line. Our fashion
show will feature Chico's clothes on models from our Newcomers Club.

Texas History - Galveston


In 1900, a perfect storm nearly wiped out the island of Galveston, Texas.
Our featured speaker will discuss life on the island before the storm,
the night the storm hit the island, and the aftermath. An amateur
historian and a native Texan who was raised on the island, out guest
will amaze you with facts about this event that the history teachers don't tell you.
Come learn about this piece of Texas history and how it affected Galveston's
growth and future.
